Our Ice cream van journey
The lockdown of 2020 changed people's perspective on life. The realisation that life is too short to be spent doing something that doesn't make you happy was where Justyn & Sam's journey started.
Justyn was an electrician by trade and Sam had worked in Education, for over 20 years. But spending quality time together in lockdown, made them consider the possibility of finding 'the dream' of working together and having more time to do the things they loved.
The couple were complete VW enthusiasts, owning several Split screens, a Baywindow, a T4 Compass Navigator and an MK1 Golf. It wasn't until early 2021, that Justyn stumbled across an advert for the sale of The Splitscreen Ice Cream Co and the dream became a reality.
How it began
The Splitscreen Ice Cream Co was founded in 2009 by Dan & Aimee Dimbleby, who saw a gap in the market for proper scoop ice cream at outdoor events.
2010 saw the restoration of their first vintage VW ice cream van. Over the next 10 years the business grew a fantastic reputation for both service and delicious products.
Sustainability
Sustainability
Most of the products we sell are 100% edible, but for everything else we use eco-products such as Vegware or Biopak which are made from plants using renewable, low carbon, recyclable materials. Our scoops are wooden and biodegradable and our napkins are made from 100% recycled paper and can be recycled or composted.
Our Napoli's tubs are all fully recyclable, but we go one step further and donate to local schools. They are used in the Art Department for storage solutions or for the Horticulture Department for planting seeds.
If you are a local school in North Norfolk and would be interested in receiving some of our Napoli's tubs, please get in contact.
Unlike other ice cream vans, all ours are installed with hold over freezers, meaning they maintain temperature for up to 12 hours without the need for electric or generators. When they are hooked up, they use very little power.
Our aim is to be as environmentally friendly as we possibly can to ensure we are doing our bit for the planet and keeping our carbon footprint as low as possible.
